About Me (B.K. DeLong)

My name is B.K. (Ben) DeLong. I'm a married, 29-year old, progressive-liberal, environmentally-conscious Pagan, as well as a music-loving motion-picture enthusiast, and a hacker-wannabe, Web geek author.

I live in Salem, Massachusetts where I reside in 1/4 of a beautiful Federal Colonial-style house with my wife, son, 2 cats (Chelsie, a white American shorthair and Nessa, a tiny, dark gray/tabby Maine Coon) and 1 dog (Sierra, a Blue Merle Miniature Australian Shepherd).

I am a proud father of William Kirk DeLong, named after his maternal great-grandfather and a little boy who is growing up fast. As of this update, he is 10 months old and almost walking. He has his own Web site which I update for now but when he's older it will get turned over to him.

I work for Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Web Production Specialist for the OpenCourseWare (OCW) project - probably one of the most revolutionary ideas in education today. I spend a lot of time on our several thousand PDF files making sure they are backwards-compatible and accessible, making sure we are strictly adhering to Web standards and building a few course sites here and there.

I am a passionate researcher and often seek the full story behind any subject that catches my interest - and I'm very good and finding that knowledge too. Part of the reason I created this second-iteration of BrainStream was to start making my personal research forays publicly available. As such, I've also been toying with the idea of a masters degree in Library & Information Science - but I'd like to try my hand at being a Dad first.

Since I inevitably get asked about my birthday every year during April, check out my Amazon.com wishlist. I use it to keep track of books I want to read, movies I want to see, music to listen to and random gadgets along the way - if you desire to get me something for birthday or some other event - start there.

My wife Kirky has a list that I keep updated as well and since people are asking about Will's birthday, we've given him his own Amazon.com account.
